Research

I build from economic theory and employ quantitative and computational methods to study questions that relate to food distribution, marketing, access, and acquisition.

Economics of PRivate Food Assistance

A significant strand of my research, including my PhD dissertation, is concerned with the economics of food banks and other private food assistance. I answer novel research questions, such as “how does food pantry visitation fluctuate over the course of the month?” and “what is the economic value of food bank services?”

Retail Food Economics

I conduct research on a variety of topics related to food retail, with an eye towards access and affordability among lower income households. In this strand of my research, I examine food prices, the relationship between retail practices and public food assistance, and consumer behavior in the retail environment.

Economics Along the Food Supply Chain

Food access in the grocery store and other outlets is made possible by decisions and outcomes along the agricultural and food supply chain. In this strand of my research, I examine facets of the food supply chain as well as their relationships to one another.
